Clinton Avenue Fire Quickly Contained by Albany Firefighters

Incident Overview

Albany, NY — August 30, 2025 — Albany firefighters responded to multiple emergency calls reporting a fire at 153 Clinton Avenue just after midnight. At 12:38 AM, several units, including Engine 2, Engine 5, Rescue 2, Truck 2, Engine 1, Engine 7, Truck 1, the Battalion Chief, and Mohawk Ambulance Service, were dispatched to the scene.

Callers reported a kitchen fire on the second floor of the building. As crews approached, Engine 2 observed heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the structure and transmitted a Signal 30 to dedicate the fire frequency.

Firefighting Response

Engine 2 deployed a 1¾-inch hand line to the second floor, encountering heavy smoke and extreme heat. Additional crews arrived and began a primary search of the third floor above the fire area.

Firefighters launched an aggressive interior attack on the second floor to knock down the flames, while exterior crews opened a second line to suppress fire spreading into the roofline.

Securing the Scene

Crews worked to shut off power and gas to the building while continuing to open ceilings and walls to check for extension. Firefighters also searched an exposure building and its attic, reporting no active fire spread.

Later, command requested units back to the scene when hidden fire was discovered in an adjacent structure. Crews quickly contained the extension with another 1¾-inch line, preventing further damage.

Outcome

No injuries were reported in the Clinton Avenue fire. The bulk of the flames were knocked down, and firefighters continued overhaul operations for several hours. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, and no official determination has been released.
